JGL Loops Back to Director Rian Johnson for his newest project, Looper.
Some of my best friends know that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of my favorite actors. No it's not because of his performances in 500 Days of Summer or Inception, but rather for two little known films, Mysterious Skin and Brick. The latter of which shall forever be included in my list of top movies of all time. It was a noir-stylized film from the mind of first time writer/director, Rian Johnson. He later went on to create The Brothers Bloom, another underappreciated gem. Rian is back though with a new film. This time its centered around time traveling. More specifically, JGL plays a man who lives the high life getting paid major moolah to kill people that crime syndicates in the future send back to the past. His troubles begin when one of the men that is sent back he recognizes, it's himself. His hesitation gives his future self enough time to escape and now he's in trouble with his employers. The rest of the movie seems to center on him trying to recapture his future self and kill him while also unraveling the mystery as to why he was sent to die. If any of Rian's or JGL's past work is any indication, this film will be another must see for me. Check out the trailer below and see if you agree.
